History

The Optimist Youth Foundation (OYF) was established in 1980. We have work to develop education opportunities for Metro-Detroit youth. We stride to provide academic support and experiences. Our motto is: Youth is Our Most Important Investment.

Our Vision: To be recognized as a premier supporter of Youth and Family Programs; thereby, improving Quality of Life.

Over our 40 year history, The OYF has provided:
  • Tutorial services to elementary and middle schools students.
  • Sponsored students sports activities.
  • Provide funds for students and parents workshop.
  • Provided transportation for students attending college or workshops.

Unified in the belief that if every child is to develop and serve as an intrinsic part of a sound society, every child must be afforded an opportunity to reach his/her greatest potential. Thus, the organization's vision is to serve as a viable civic and community catalyst by generating funds (1) to support tutorial services (STEM) in elementary and middle schools and (2) to award college scholarships to deserving high school graduates in need of financial help.  

Our support services to Detroit Public students is ongoing. OYF is proud to have been a forerunner in the fight to close gaps in student achievement.  

OYF continues to serve Detroit Metropolitan Area Students by identifying and awarding college scholarships to deserving high school graduates. Recognizing the financial burden of today's college costs, the foundation offers scholarships to help students meet initial College and/or Higher Education Expenses. Funds are used for tuition, books purchase, clothing or other essentials needed to help students make a smooth transition to college.
